Free Fourth of July Events in South Florida

Independence Day is this Thursday and there will be lots of events going on throughout South Florida to celebrate the country’s big day. If you’d rather not spend too much money enjoying the fireworks, these places will all be having free events.

Perhaps the largest of these free events is America’s Birthday Bash at Bayfront Park which starts at 3 pm. Besides the fireworks, there will be lots of drinks and food and plenty of entertainment to keep you busy until the show begins, including a kid-friendly area.

For something with more of a beach feel, the Miami Beach Fire on the Fourth Festival is happening at North Beach Bandshell and the fun begins at noon. Enjoy music by 93.9 MIA’s DJ Joey Brooks as well as the ReMix band plus plenty of food trucks and of course the beach ambiance. Sand, sun, and fireworks should make for a great time.

Speaking of Bayfront Park, its neighbor Bayside is also hosting its own Fourth of July Celebration beginning at 11 am. The event will include fun for all ages including live music, complimentary face painting, and of course fireworks.

Independence Day in South Florida

In less than three weeks we’ll be celebrating the return of Independence Day, and South Florida is definitely among the best places to enjoy the brilliant displays of fireworks as they illuminate the skies. In case you wish to start making early plans for the big day, here are a few suggestions of where you may enjoy spending the Fourth of July.

We’ll kick things off right here in the barrier island of Miami Beach. While event plans have yet to be revealed, you can expect to find plenty of activities the entire family can enjoy over at North Beach Bandshell Park located on 73^rd Street and Collins Avenue. No matter what happens, you can expect the day to end with a colorful display of fireworks. You may wish to consider using a ridesharing service or the complimentary Miami Beach trolley which runs until midnight.

Over in Miami, America’s Birthday Bash is happening in the downtown area at Bayfront Park. This year, expect to see things like the kids’ zone, plenty of beverages and food, and what may possibly be the largest fireworks display in all of South Florida. Do keep in mind that bottles, cans, coolers or personal fireworks are not permitted.

Miami Beach Wants More People to Recycle

Could art be used as an effective way to get more people to recycle and reduce their carbon footprint? Miami Beach seems to think so, and it’s using taxpayer money to assist with the effort. Last month, the city asked artists to use their creativity and submit a bid to create a temporary public art installation that would also serve as a fully functional recycling bin. The artist who submits the successful bid will receive $100,000 to bring their vision to life.

Per the guidelines, the structure should encourage interaction from the public by making the act of recycling “fun and cool”. The artwork should provide moments that are “Instagrammable” while supporting Miami Beach’s initiatives to go plastic free. The city has received praise for its strong efforts in reducing its reliance on plastic, becoming one of the first to ban the use of plastic straws on the beach. During the past two years, the city has banned the sale or use of Styrofoam citywide, as well as the distribution of plastic bags with a single use at sidewalk cafes.

Miami Beach Is Waiting This Summer

Have Drinks and Bites in Miami Beach This Week

It’s the first week of June and the official start of what’s sure to be a sultry summer is just a few weeks away. What’s happening in South Florida this week? Let’s explore a couple of notable events in Miami Beach that you may wish to attend.

The Berkeley Shore Hotel on Collins Avenue is home to the Italian themed Fi’lia South Beach restaurant. The eatery recently kicked off a seven-hour happy hour available throughout the entire week beginning at noon until 7 pm. Sip on discounted cocktails like the soda, cucumber, and parsley-lemon syrup infused vodka drink called Parched or have one of the bites like smoked beef carpaccio.

On Thursday, the Traymore by Michael Schwartz will be celebrating National Rosé Day with its appropriately titled Rosé Thursdays. Enjoy rosé at a discounted price or go for one of the food items like the Thai grilled fish. You can also build your own burger for just $22. The event begins at 6 pm and continues until 9 pm.

Memorial Day Weekend in Miami Beach

Memorial Day weekend is less than a week away, which means thousands of people will likely be visiting Miami Beach to enjoy the various special events, concerts, the food, and of course, the beach.

For years, Memorial Day weekend has been associated with the popular Urban Beach Week, which is known for its hip-hop themed parties and concerts. However, this year Miami Beach is also welcoming several other events like the third annual Air and Sea Show as well as the arts and culture festival titled Re-Frame, which features local artists.

For those planning on visiting Miami Beach, it’s important to be aware of a few things. For one, Ocean Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning Friday morning through Tuesday morning. Barricades will also be used to cordon off the nightclubs and the various cafes. There will also be a traffic loop set up between Fifth and 16th streets starting at 7 pm on Saturday and Sunday nights.

To avoid the hassle of trying to find parking spots, you’re strongly encouraged to use the free app ParkMe which shows available spots as well as parking rates. Don’t forget you can also make use of the free trolley to get around.

The Cardozo Hotel Reopens Its Doors

Are you planning on a staycation in Miami Beach? There are plenty of different hotels to choose from, but now you’ll have one more option to choose from. The name may sound familiar, but the experience is all-new.

After four years and millions of dollars of work, Miami celebrity power couple Emilio and Gloria Estefan are unveiling the newly restored Cardozo Hotel on Ocean Drive. The historic landmark features a host of improvements including all-new marble flooring, mosaic tiles on the columns, and various accents designed to reinforce a tranquil ambiance like white candles and wooden lounge chairs. The changes are a huge difference from the Cardozo Hotel’s former use of wood paneling, dark furniture, and headboards with an animal print.

Consisting of a trio of stories and 41 rooms, the Cardozo Hotel was erected back in the late 1930s and was named after former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Benjamin Cardozo. The Estefans purchased the hotel back in 1992 and they have since upgraded the hotel twice to keep with the times. The hotel has also been seen in film several times, including There’s Something About Mary released in 1998 and the 1996 film The Birdcage starring the late Robin Williams.

Have Some Great Sushi in Miami Beach

It’s
not for everyone, but there are plenty of people out there that can appreciate
a nice plate of raw fish, better known by its name of sushi. Of course, an area
as cosmopolitan as South Florida has plenty of different, excellent sushi spots

Let’s
begin right here in Miami Beach. Nobu Miami may seem large yet the vibe remains
intimate. The list of different, curated nigiri is surprisingly large and if

fashion designer Gianni Versace. The sushi bar has just four seats, so getting
a reservation here is easier said than done. However, in return, you’re in for
an unforgettable omakase dining experience.

In
North Miami Beach is Yakko-San on 163^rd Street. This has become a
popular spot for late night dining (it closes at 3 am) and it includes a
variety of options like crispy bok choy as an appetizer or hamachi tataki
jalapeño rolls comprised of ingredients like cucumber, avocado, and more.

Miami Beach Looks to Make Spring Break Safe for Everyone

Earlier
this week, the Miami Beach City Commission passed a series of restrictions
aimed at curbing some of the rowdiness that has long been associated with South
Beach during the spring break period. After a wild 2019, the changes may help
with making spring break in South Beach a little easier to enjoy and manage.

Among
the new changes, business licenses will no longer be issued to promoters
looking to plan events at bars or clubs during a holiday weekend such as the
Fourth of July, Memorial Day or busy periods. Furthermore, the city is cracking
down on clubs and bars that allow individuals under the age of 21 to enter by
increasing penalties. City managers now have greater emergency powers to deal
with events that draw massive crowds like spring break.

While
the changes may have positive intentions, they were not met with universal
agreement. A pair of commissioners addressed their concerns that the change may
negatively impact businesses that are responsibly following the rules without
tackling the fundamental problem.

The
restrictions must still be approved by a commission a second time before they

South Beach’s Fantastic Hotels
